“Pedal” in the Park with Pat Celebrates Centennial of Sheridan Park in 2014 Annual Ride
Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik invites all constituents and bicycle enthusiasts to join her on a FREE bike ride June 19th beginning at the Sheridan Park Pavilion, Area 1. This family-friendly ride will travel along the Oak Leaf Trail through Sheridan and Warnimont parks into the northern part of Grant Park and returning to Sheridan Pavilion in time for a concert by the “Bluegrass Allstars” at 6:30 p.m. Marking the Centennial Celebration of Sheridan Park, a year-long project of the Sheridan Park Friends, this year the annual ride and concert will feature news and activities to further the celebration. Supervisor Jursik sponsors the annual “Pedal in the Park with Pat” to call attention to the condition of the multi-use trails as well as to help coordinate efforts for improvement. Originally designed as a 64-mile trail in 1939, the trail currently stretches for more than 120 miles, connecting residents and visitors to recreation and economic activities throughout the County. Last year, Supervisor Jursik included money in the budget to replace aging sections of the oldest trails, some of the first trails built along the south shore leg of the Oak Leaf Trial. “I have been one of the strongest advocate for bikes and trails on the board, and I am proud of this legacy,” Jursik said. “The trails are by far the most used asset in our parks. Attendance on the trail far exceeds pools, concerts, golfing or any other activity the Parks Dept. offers. We must care for these trails and replace them as needed.” What: Pedal in the Park with Pat and Celebration of Sheridan Park Centennial When: 6:00 Bike Ride, Concert, Blue Grass Allstars – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 Who: Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik And participants in a Family Friendly ride or concert-goers for Blue Grass Allstars Where: Sheridan Pavilion Area 1, Layton Avenue and Sheridan Drive, Cudahy, WI (Helmets are highly encouraged.
