New Land Enterprises Supports World Central Kitchen’s Work in Ukraine
Ukrainian-born business owners donate to relief efforts and create opportunities for community involvement.
Milwaukee: March 28, 2022 — New Land Enterprises is taking a stand to help support the people of Ukraine through donations to World Central Kitchen, and has also created an opportunity for community members to show their support at Crossroads Collective food hall.
Both the Gokhman and Shuk families, who founded New Land Enterprises, come from the Ukrainian city of Donetsk. As news pours in from the war raging there, they are reminded how lucky they are to have made the incredibly difficult decision to move to the United States. The founders of the company still feel a deep connection to their ancestral home, and like many others, are heartbroken for the people of Ukraine and the refugees leaving everything they have behind to flee the danger and destruction.
New Land Enterprises unequivocally condemns Putin’s actions, and upon looking for a more tangible way to help, the company’s leaders came across World Central Kitchen, an organization started by Chef Jose Andres to provide meals in and around conflict zones to people in dire need of food.
New Land Enterprises has donated $10,000 through their property management and hospitality divisions, and announced this past weekend that they are matching all employee contributions to the organization.
“As we watch the news and stay up to date on everything happening in Ukraine, it’s easy to feel a sense of helplessness,” explains Managing Director Tim Gokhman. “We can’t sit idly by, and this is something we can do that will impact the people who need it most.”
Because so many in Milwaukee are looking for a way to help, New Land has also worked with the staff and vendors at its Crossroads Collective food hall to contribute the proceeds from select menu items to World Central Kitchen.
At The Pharmacy bar, located inside the food hall, beverage industry veteran Daniel Dufek has created a special drink called “HOPE Floats” in honor of those affected by the war. The Pharmacy will donate all profits from this week’s sales of HOPE Floats to the relief efforts. The HOPE Floats features Scratch chocolate and vanilla ice cream, Top Note ginger beer, whipped cream and Old Forester Rye Whiskey (also available without the whiskey).
“We know first hand the comforting and healing powers of a good meal,” comments Hospitality Director Emily Chirillo, “and we’re so thankful for Chef Jose Andres’ work that allows us to help make a difference.”
New Land Enterprises encourages others to learn more about the mission of World Central Kitchen, and to consider making a contribution to support the organization’s efforts in Ukraine.
