MILWAUKEE, WI-Saturday, November 4th will mark the return of the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market (MWFM) for its 15th season. Once again, it will be held at The Table, 5305 W. Capitol Drive, a ministry that has a strong focus on regenerative farming, food as spiritual nourishment, healthy food access, and entrepreneurship. The Table is guided by “Milwaukee Visionary” Venice Williams, who also is the Executive Director of the Fondy Food Center. The Fondy Food Center operates the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market. Williams clarifies, “We were hoping the winter market would launch this season inside of our offices at 2102 W. Fond du Lac Avenue, in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, but the reconstruction needed to the property has not yet begun.” Glenna Holstein, President of The Table, also shares her excitement. “This market brings together people from across southeastern Wisconsin to connect over nourishment, creativity, and community. “
More than seventy businesses applied for this year’s MWFM, with 40 to 45 local and regional vendors present each Saturday, 9:00am to 2:00pm, November 4th thru April 13th. There will be markets on November 25th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, also December 23rd and 30th, the Saturdays before Christmas and the start of the New Year.
Travis Martinez, chef and owner of Sugar Studio LLC, is excited to be part of the market. “Sugar Studio has always admired the Milwaukee Winter Market and was so excited to be offered the chance to vend this year. After seeing the venue we know that this is going to be a great market. We are excited to share all the brownies, cookies, and other goodies our customers have grown to love, plus some new items.” Known for their lavender lemonade, business owner
Jolie Brox is also eager for this week’s opening. “Fit4YouMKE is excited to be a returning vendor at this years market. We are looking forward to collaborating with like-minded businesses, circulating our dollars within the city, and providing wellness in a bottle to our community.” A change from last year’s market is the addition of the lower level of The Table for the MWFM. This is where you will find the expansion of hot food vendors, more seating, and increased community activities. The Fondy Food Center was also able to make more space available for some of the farmers and other businesses who are part of the Fondy Farmers Market. “It is a significant moment to bring farmers such as
Bob Craig from Craigland Farms and
Ser Thao from Pea Pod Farm into the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market,” explains
Heather Deaton, Board President for Fondy. “Customers of the Fondy Farmers Market will also be able to enjoy their favorite egg rolls from Lucky Cuisine at the winter market for the first time.”
Milwaukee Food Journeys, a collaborative art exhibit inspired by the stories of hundreds of Milwaukeeans will hold its opening reception alongside the first day of the MWFM. Featuring artists’ works from LUNA and TRUE Skool, Milwaukee Food Journeys is an exhibit that highlights issues of food access, food justice, and how Milwaukeeans think about nourishment and trust when engaging with Wisconsin’s larger food system. The exhibit will remain through April 13, 2024.
