Milwaukee Anti-war Committee to Protest Air and Water Show

By - Jul 24th, 2024 12:44 pm

MILWAUKEE (July 24, 2024) – The Milwaukee Anti-war Committee will be protesting the Air and Water Show for the second year on July 28 at 12 pm, starting at Cathedral Square Park.

The Air and Water Show is known as a family friendly event that is a great pride for the city. The Milwaukee Anti-war Committee knows this to be a lie. The Air and Water Show causes at the minimum a disruption to the daily lives of city residents and at its most harmful it is an inappropriate display of militarism and imperialism. As such this protest will be the kick-off action in our Anti-Military Recruitment Campaign to target the harmful propaganda the military spends billions on selling everyday Americans and their children.

The Milwaukee Anti-war Committee Chair, Sara, remains firm that, “The US military is glorified in movies and video games, and advertised as a ticket out of poverty, into financial stability and a good education. US military recruitment takes many forms and the entrenchment and normalization of it starts so young. Here at the Milwaukee Anti-war Committee, we reject the normalization of the US war machine.”

The goals of our campaign are simple:

  • At large education on predatory military recruitment tactics
  • Lower the number of young people in the Milwaukee area joining military branches
  • Push back on War Propaganda being perpetuated by Wisconsin Legislators, at home and in DC

It is with these goals in mind that the Milwaukee Anti-war Committee is fighting back by holding a march starting at Cathedral Square Park on Sunday the 28th at 12pm. We need to think critically about the role of seemingly innocuous entertainment in military recruitment, and we also know that there are many reasons to oppose the Air & Water Show. We invite any individual and group that opposes the Air and Water Show to join our protest.

The Milwaukee Anti-war Committee is a grassroots anti-war organization committed to de-militarization in Milwaukee and abroad.
