Mayor Johnson Celebrates “Wisconsin Bike Week” with Annual Bike Ride
Mayor Cavalier Johnson invites community members to join him for a bike ride on Thursday, June 6 at 8:30 a.m. to celebrate Wisconsin Bike Week. Wisconsin Bike Week 2024 is organized by the Wisconsin Bike Fed and will be celebrated June 1-9 to promote bicycling throughout state.
The event will begin with remarks and then will slow roll through Midtown, Washington Park, King Park and other nearby neighborhoods as several exciting DPW projects in the area are highlighted.
The Mayor’s Bike Ride emphasizes the benefits of bicycling for health and environmental impacts. It encourages community engagement and offers residents a way to connect with Milwaukee, all from the seat of their bicycle.
Participants bringing their own bikes should arrive early if they haven’t ridden in a while. Wheel and Sprocket will be at Tiefenthaler Park prior to the ride to help with any simple, quick fixes, such as oiling chains, pumping up tires, and fixing flats. Participants without their own bikes can rent one from the Bublr Bikes station at Tiefenthaler Park.
This year’s Wisconsin Bike Week theme is “Bikes Mean Business,” which looks to promote bicycling’s positive impact on local economies. An economic impact study by Outdoor Industry Association shows that bicycling contributes $1.4 billion to Wisconsin annually and provides more than 13,000 jobs.
