Marquee Season for South Shore Park Kicks Off with Beer Garden Opening
Extensive improvements coming this season include a new beach, new playground, and completion of repairs to the storm wall around South Shore Yacht Club
MILWAUKEE, WI – On Friday, April 11th, Supervisor Eckblad was thrilled to celebrate the opening of the South Shore Terrace Beer Garden with County Parks Director Guy Smith and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic. This event kicks off a marquee season for South Shore Park that has been a generation in the making.
“These improvements are the result of decades of effort by the Milwaukee County Parks Department, community partners, and elected leaders,” said Eckblad. “It is a privilege to be stewarding the completion of projects that a whole generation of Bay View leaders have worked to bring to fruition. So many have contributed to these efforts — from planning in the early 2000s to the arrival of critical funding through the American Rescue Plan Act under President Joe Biden. This season, families from across Milwaukee County will get to enjoy a cleaner beach, a brand new playground, and a calmer harbor behind our new storm wall here at South Shore Park.”
Alderperson Marina Dimitrijevic, who represents District 14 and the South Shore Park area, reflected on the long-term value of investing in public spaces: “Public spaces are an invaluable part of our community. The return of the long term investments in this amenity are paying off and so many future generations will continue to benefit. I could not be prouder to see this local park turn into a regional attraction for all to enjoy. It is truly a symbol and beacon of our city’s and our county’s progress forward.”
Starting Friday, April 11th, South Shore Terrace Beer Garden will be open 4pm-8pm Wednesday-Friday, and from 12pm-8pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays.
The South Shore Terrace Beer Garden is expected to generate more than $1 million in revenue for the parks this season, and Molson Coors – whose partnership has helped make the beer garden possible – has generously donated over $600,000 to the parks in recent years.
