‘Mailman Mike’ to receive retirement honor from Common Council
Michael “Mike” Boothe – aka ‘Mailman Mike’ – will be honored on Tuesday (September 19) by the Common Council for his 30-year United States Postal Service career, Alderman Jonathan Brostoff said today.
Mr. Boothe, who Alderman Brostoff said has made a significant positive impact on residents and business owners throughout the Riverwest neighborhood, has worked as a city letter carrier out of the N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Post Office for his entire career and is retiring on September 23.
Alderman Brostoff is asking for the public’s help: Anyone with notable stories of interacting with Mailman Mike is asked to please share those vignettes with the Alderman. A few of the selected stories will be shared during Tuesday’s presentation at City Hall. Please email those stories to Alderman Brostoff’s Aide, Benjamin Jackson, at Benjamin.Jackson3@milwaukee.gov.
Mr. Boothe, the youngest of 13 children, spent his childhood in the neighborhood around 26th and Hope, attended St. Agnes Grade School and Whitefish Bay High School, and after high school enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he fulfilled his dream of exploring Europe during the two years he was stationed in Germany.
Tuesday’s full Council meeting starts at 9 a.m. in the third floor Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St., and will be televised live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at www.city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
