Jewish Museum Milwaukee Presents New Exhibit “Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse”
Jewish Museum Milwaukee invites visitors to explore how female artists, using textiles as their medium, challenge social expectations by infusing this soft medium with social and political awareness.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Aug. 23, 2023) – Jewish Museum Milwaukee is proud to announce its upcoming contemporary art exhibit, Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse, set to run from September 7 to December 31, 2023. This thought-provoking collection explores the intersection of textile and fiber art with contemporary issues affecting women, challenging preconceived notions of these mediums and inviting viewers to engage with powerful works of social and political commentary.
Along with the exhibit, Jewish Museum Milwaukee will provide valuable context through educational and community programs. These programs will foster meaningful discussions on subjects such as the current political landscape, social issues, civil rights history, immigration and other topics explored in the exhibit.
The collection, developed in collaboration the Contemporary Art Modern Project (CAMP), features selected pieces from previous editions of Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse mounted in Florida and Connecticut and new Midwest Works. It showcases the artistry of national and local artists who are at the forefront of social discourse, making it a must-see for anyone interested in the intersection of art and activism.
Museum admission will be FREE during two free community days on Monday, November 6, and Sunday, December 3. Special Members-Only hours will be held Sunday, September 10, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
