MILWAUKEE, WI – On the eve of Wisconsin’s August 11 Democratic primary, community advocate and non-profit professional Ismael Luna enters Election Day backed by a broad coalition of labor unions, community organizations, elected leaders, and neighbors.

Luna grew up on Milwaukee’s South Side, was homeless at 14, and today works as a case manager at a homeless shelter. A first-generation college graduate with a master’s degree in public policy, he became a first-time homeowner at 21 and previously served as Vice Chair of RISE Drug Free MKE.

Luna’s platform centers on lived experience and the needs of District 8: lowering housing and healthcare costs, repairing roads, increasing community safety, and standing up for immigrant families.

“I don’t forget where I come from,” Luna said. “I grew up right here on the South Side. This community raised me. I was homeless at 14, and today I help women find stable housing. I’m running for State Assembly to advocate for our community and the families who get left behind when politicians stop paying attention.”

When increased ICE activity left South Side families afraid to leave their homes for basic necessities, Luna’s campaign took action. Volunteers organized food deliveries and conducted bilingual “Know Your Rights” education and outreach across District 8.

“Así es la comunidad,” Luna said. “We help each other. Our community deserves a representative who will stand up for them.”

Ismael Luna is proud to be endorsed by:

Polls are open Tuesday, August 11, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Voters in District 8 can locate their polling place and view a sample ballot at MyVote.wi.gov.
