How is higher ed building SE Wisconsin economy?

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Join us Thursday, Jan. 9 in downtown Milwaukee to hear from five leaders in regional higher education on how their respective campuses are adding muscle to the economy.

From building a trained workforce to conducting research and development projects, and from forging industry partnerships to executing other examples of collaboration, the regions higher education pillars are engaged in the larger economy.

Panelists are Dr. Kimo Ah Yun, president of Marquette University; Dr. Anthony Cruz, president of the Milwaukee Area Technical College; Chancellor Mark Mone of the UW-Milwaukee; Dr. John Raymond of the Medical College of Wisconsin; and Dr. John Walz of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

“Students make up nearly one-quarter of Milwaukee’s population, according to a recent report by Forbes magazine, and there are 19 colleges within a 10-mile radius of the city that contribute to the region’s vitality,” Tech Council President Tom Still said. “With total research and development spending around $460 million in 2023, colleges in the Milwaukee area add to the region’s vibrancy and potential partnerships in that way, as well.”
