MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Historical Society and the Wisconsin Historical Society are excited to announce a collaborative new exhibit opened to visitors this week featuring unique collection items and stories from contemporary history spanning topics including sports and recreation, entertainment, food, media, and more. Exclusively on display at the Milwaukee County Historical Society for a limited time, the exhibit is part of the Wisconsin Historical Society’s statewide History Makers Tour and will be open for public viewing until March 22, 2025.
“It’s exciting to see this collaboration with the Wisconsin Historical Society come to fruition,” said MCHS Executive Director, Ben Barbera. “The pop culture exhibit is visually appealing, fun, and interactive. Coupled with our exhibit on Milwaukee’s beer and brewing history, visiting MCHS will be a good way to spend time during the cold winter months.”
“Homegrown: Wisconsin Pop Culture” was developed jointly by the Wisconsin Historical Society and Milwaukee County Historical Society and features unique collection items from both organizations. Its large-scale display panels fill out 3,500 square feet of exhibition space and cover a wide range of subjects like Oscar Meyer and the
Green Bay Packers, as well as many individuals who made their mark on Wisconsin history like
Liberace,
Les Paul, and
Chris Farley.
“Every story featured in this collaborative new exhibit is grounded in Wisconsin history. From the
Milwaukee Brewers to
Harley-Davidson, it spotlights many of the household names that have come to be synonymous with Wisconsin pop culture,” said Angela Titus, assistant deputy director and chief program officer for the Wisconsin Historical Society.
The exhibit will be on display at the Milwaukee County Historical Society’s Historical Center in downtown Milwaukee, open Mondays and Wednesday-Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Milwaukee County Historical Society members receive FREE access to this exhibit and Wisconsin Historical Society members receive a 50% discount.

The Wisconsin Historical Society’s History Makers tour brings history directly to local communities in every region of the state through pop-up exhibits, artifact displays, public programs, art installations and other activities in the lead up to the opening of the future Wisconsin History Center in 2027.
