MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Ann Peacock to the Dane County Circuit Court – Branch 12. The appointment fills the vacancy created by Judge Chris Taylor’s election to the Court of Appeals – District IV. Peacock will complete a term ending July 31, 2024.

“Ann Peacock brings a strong work ethic, commitment to public service, and extensive civil litigation experience to the bench,” said Gov. Evers. “She will be an excellent judge for the people of Dane County.”

Peacock began her legal career in 2003 at Foley & Lardner LLP as an associate, focusing on commercial litigation and employment law. After five years, she joined the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) as an assistant attorney general. In 2018, she was promoted to be a deputy director of the Civil Litigation Unit, and in 2019, she became the unit director, managing a 45-person team with a high-volume caseload. While at the DOJ, she has focused on civil rights, torts, and employment law.

“Ann’s success as a litigator and a leader is due to her hard-working attitude, intelligence, experience, and compassion,” said Lara Sutherlin, administrator of the DOJ’s Division of Legal Services. “She routinely analyzes complex legal issues with wide-ranging policy impact and navigates urgent problems that rarely present with straightforward solutions. Ann regularly offers creative, collaborative resolutions to meet the needs of any given situation. As a steadfast public servant, she takes seriously her obligation to achieve fair and just resolutions to complicated problems.”

Peacock lives in Fitchburg with her family and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin (UW) – Platteville and UW Law School. She has served as president, vice president, and secretary of the Western District of Wisconsin Bar Association, on the Western District of Wisconsin’s Merit Selection Panel, and is active with the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin–Badgerland.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to accept this appointment to the Dane County Circuit Court,” said Peacock. “It has been my privilege to serve the people of Wisconsin for nearly 15 years, and I look forward to continuing that service. As a judge, I will use fairness and compassion as my guideposts to ensure that all are treated equally under the law.”
