Gov. Evers Again Protects Wisconsin’s Democracy with his Veto
MADISON – Today, Gov. Tony Evers once again protected Wisconsin’s democracy by vetoing the dangerous redistricting bill AB 415. Passed by the state legislature, the bill would have continued gerrymandering of the state’s voting maps.
Executive Director Kerry Schumann had this to say:
“We applaud Gov. Evers for listening to the will of the voters and vetoing AB 415 to ensure every voter can be fairly represented. Again and again, Gov. Evers has shown his commitment to protecting our state’s democracy and prioritizing the people of Wisconsin.
Republicans in the state legislature attempted another power grab meant to permanently enshrine a GOP majority at the expense of their own constituents’ wishes. It’s time our representatives are held to account by those who matter most: the voters.
Wisconsinites must be fairly represented and be able to freely exercise their right to vote in order for our communities to thrive.”
