Clarke Square Neighborhood Responds to Traffic Casualties with Strength and Beauty
Milwaukee, Wis., August 25, 2025 – On September 13, 2025, La Familia de Arte will unveil 10 concrete bollards and 5 concrete planters at the slip lane near the Mitchell Park Domes. This investment, made possible through a grant from the City of Milwaukee, Department of Public Works, will create a safer traffic flow for the Clarke Square neighborhood. The installation is located on Pierce Street to S. 27th St.
La Familia de Arte creates installations throughout Milwaukee; however, its home base is the Clarke Square neighborhood. “There have been too many smashed light posts and terrifying brushes with careening vehicles,” said Lori Gramling, Ph.D., Executive Director, La Familia de Arte. “The La Familia artists were pleased to partner with our neighbors to do a project that makes our streets safer while adding beauty.”
A permanent installation, the 700-pound bollards will result in a safer street, while bringing beauty to the community. Each bollard is decorated with vibrant ceramic tiles that highlight scenes of Clarke Square, Silver City and the Mitchell Park Domes.
