Chairwoman Nicholson Issues Statement Regarding Man Killed Near the Republican National Convention by Ohio Police
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson issued the following statement in response to the tragic death of a Milwaukee County man killed near the Republican National Convention by Ohio police:
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic shooting of ‘Jehovah’ Samuel Sharpe Jr. by Ohio police in the 10th District outside King Park yesterday. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as our entire community. This incident underscores the urgent need for comprehensive police reform and the importance of addressing systemic issues that disproportionately impact marginalized communities, including the homeless.
“Over the past few years, Milwaukee County has dedicated substantial time and resources to improving the King Park area, from enhancements at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, to the installation of No Harm Vending Machines. We remain committed to investing in this community.
“We demand a full and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served and call for immediate action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Our thoughts are with the victims’ family and the entire community as we work towards meaningful change.”
