Bronzeville Week home stretch includes events for all ages
Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs now in its 12th year, heads into its final few days with a variety of events suitable for the entire family. Alderwoman Coggs is encouraging adults and youth alike to take advantage of the opportunities available in the coming days.
Thursday, August 10 kicks off with Be Focused – Tools to help with health goals at noon. The event will take place at Food For Health, 2007 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Registration is required at foodforhealth.org. The day continues with a duo of events intended for youth. Cool Aid & Canvases begins at 12:30 p.m. at the King Drive Commons, 2275 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., and Engineering Genius: Hands on Intro to African-American Invention & Innovation, starts at 1 p.m. at the Ameritech King Commerce Center, 2745 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.
Friday August 11 begins with a hybrid event (viewable at Facebook.com/BronzevilleWeek) Lit with Lay. This interactive tutorial of today’s hottest dance moves will take place at 1 p.m. at Salute Society Studio, 2372 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Then beginning at 2 p.m. at the MLK Heritage Health Center, 2555 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., is the Luau Lullaby Community Baby Shower that will include community resources, entertainment and more.
From 3 – 6 p.m. free book bags, games, and music will be available at the Harambee Back to School Block Party on Wright Street between 6th and King Drive. classic Trivia Night will be hosted at Honey Bee Sage Wellness, 1819 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., on Friday evening from 6 – 9 p.m. Simultaneously, live entertainment will be taking place at Rise & Grind Café, 2737 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., in the form of Bronzeville Presents: Spider Creek.
Friday concludes with the 9th annual Bronzeville Sleepover for Education that begins at 7 p.m. at King Drive and North Ave. Supplies can be donated at any of the three locations including Pete’s Fruit Market, Rise & Grind Café, and the first floor rotunda at City Hall.
