Board of Supervisors Creates City-County Joint Taskforce on Climate and Economic Equity
The Milwaukee Common Council passed a companion resolution to create the taskforce at its Tuesday, July 9 meeting.
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution authored by Supervisor Supreme Moore Omokunde to create the Milwaukee City-County Joint Taskforce on Climate and Economic Equity at its Thursday, July 25 meeting. The taskforce brings together elected officials and community leaders to make recommendations for achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner, while mitigating racial and income inequality.
“As a government body, we are tasked to speak on behalf of our constituents. It is important to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves; our air, land and water. While it is crucial that we address the looming crisis of climate change, it is equally important to address the growing inequality happening in our economy,” said Moore Omokunde.
The taskforce will be made up of 13 members, including representatives from the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, Milwaukee Common Council, Milwaukee Youth Council, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Clean Wisconsin, #Community Advocates Public Policy Institute#, Milwaukee Area Labor Council, Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Sierra Club and Wisconsin Climate Table.
The Milwaukee Common Council passed a companion resolution to create the taskforce at its Tuesday, July 9 meeting. The resolution directs the taskforce to present its findings to the County Board and Common Council in six months.
