Ald. Dodd to dedicate Hartung Park bench in recognition of Jim Bohl

By - Jul 2nd, 2021 12:08 pm

On Saturday, July 3 at 1 p.m. Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd will be joined by 5th District residents and the Hartung Park Community Association for a special dedication in Hartung Park (located at W. Keefe Ave. & Menomonee River Parkway) in recognition of former 5th District Alderman Jim Bohl. The dedication will take place near the playground promptly at 1 p.m.

“When I became Alderwoman of the 5th District in 2018 I knew I had big shoes to fill. Alderman Bohl served this city for a long time and advanced many beneficial projects, including the creation of Hartung Park which is now a neighborhood favorite,” said Alderwoman Dodd. “I’m horned to be joining the Hartung Park Community Association for this bench dedication that can serve as a small sign of gratitude for everything Alderman Bohl has done, and continues to do for Milwaukee.”

Jim Bohl served as Alderman of Milwaukee’s 5th District from 2000 – 2018, and currently advocates for Milwaukee in the City’s Intergovernmental Relations Division. Prior to serving as Alderman, he was a teacher at James Madison University High School.

Alderman Bohl helped lead the effort to create Hartung Park, the site of what was once a quarry on Milwaukee’s northwest side border with Wauwatosa. The project was a partnership between communities as two-thirds of the park is in Milwaukee, and one-third in Wauwatosa. The park hosts numerous community events and includes hilly grounds with trails, playground equipment, a pond, a stone labyrinth and more.
