Ald. Nikiya Dodd
Press Release

Show your neighbors courtesy and respect this 4th of July weekend

Statement of Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd July 2, 2021

By - Jul 2nd, 2021 02:53 pm

As the 4th of July holiday is upon us, I want to remind residents of the 5th District, and those citywide, to show your neighbors courtesy and refrain from setting off fireworks, particularly in our residential areas.

In Milwaukee, it is illegal to possess, sell or discharge fireworks and for good reason. They can cause injuries that are otherwise preventable, disrupt quality of life in our neighborhoods, and can cause anxiety and fear for small children and pets. Residents should know that anyone found by Milwaukee Police or the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office to be in violation of the city ordinance relating to fireworks can face fines of up to $1,000.

The good news is that this year many areas throughout the city are hosting fireworks displays, and these represent a safe, pre-organized option to enjoy fireworks. For more information, I’d encourage residents to visit https://city.milwaukee.gov/DCD/BoardsCommissions/July4th.

If you see or hear someone nearby disrupting the peace via fireworks, please call the Milwaukee Police Department non-emergency number at 414-933-4444 to report the situation and to request a police response.
