St. Luke’s Church to Host Free Solar Power Hour in Bay View on September 1
Bay View congregation that recently went solar will share its own experience as rising energy costs drive interest in Grow Solar's group buy program
MILWAUKEE, WI, August 25, 2026 – The Grow Solar Milwaukee-Waukesha program will host a free Solar Power Hour at St. Luke’s Church in Bay View on Tuesday, September 1 at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, giving local homeowners and business owners a chance to learn how a solar group buy can lower installation costs and hedge against rising electricity prices.
As global energy demand climbs and utility rates continue to rise, more property owners are looking to solar to gain control over their energy costs. Grow Solar Milwaukee-Waukesha, offered by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) in partnership with the Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office and the Waukesha County Green Team, helps residents and businesses across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Jefferson, Washington, and Ozaukee counties pool their buying power to access below-market pricing from a competitively selected installer, Full Spectrum Solar.
St. Luke’s Church has its own solar story to tell. The Bay View congregation’s rooftop system was installed by Full Spectrum Solar (the same installer selected for this year’s Grow Solar Milwaukee-Waukesha group buy) and went online in January 2025. The project is part of the church’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship.
“At St. Luke’s our transition to solar power has actually fostered more energy internally within our parish community,” said Jason Lavann, priest at St. Luke’s Church. “We do not need to carry the stress of continuously rising energy costs the way we once did, and our long-term economic savings because of our investment frees us up to be more engaged in supporting our local community.”
“Our program’s group buy pricing already saves Milwaukee residents money on solar,” said Corey Ziemann, Program Manager at MREA. “Between the increased Focus on Energy rebate and financing options like the Milwaukee Shines loan through Summit Credit Union, there are paths to going solar that fit a variety of budgets.”
Participants who sign up through the program get free, no-obligation site assessments and access to group buy pricing that isn’t available outside the program.
