SEIU Wisconsin Healthcare and Service Workers Endorse Francesca Hong for Governor
MADISON, Wis. — SEIU Wisconsin is proud to endorse Francesca Hong for Governor of Wisconsin. Hong, a longtime advocate and fighter for the working class, is committed to building back strong labor protections by overturning Act 10 and so-called “Right-to-Work” laws, expanding Badgercare, and abolishing poverty wages in Wisconsin.
“Tom Tiffany is an election denier who voted to strip more than 250,000 Wisconsinites of our healthcare. Francesca Hong is a leader who is ready to fight for working Wisconsinites and rewrite the rules that have left working people in our state behind for decades,” said SEIU WI member Lisa Gordon, a CNA who works in Monroe, WI. “I feel extra excited to join my union in voting for Francesca Hong because of all the energy and support I’ve seen in my community and elsewhere for her across the state.”
SEIU Wisconsin member leaders, representing workers in healthcare, property services, and more, voted overwhelmingly to endorse Francesca Hong following a rigorous process of directly engaging with candidates. After months of engagement, union members came away confident that Francesca Hong is the leader Wisconsin needs. Francesca Hong will take on health system executives, support collective bargaining rights for UW nurses and home care workers, and has committed to overturning Act 10 and Right-to-Work.
Francesca Hong’s support for a $20 minimum wage, adopting family-centered policies such as paid family leave and affordable child care, and enacting much-needed regulations on corporate monopolies make her the clear choice for all Wisconsinites, not just the wealthy.
“As a restaurant worker and single parent, Francesca Hong understands the issues impacting working Wisconsinites. She has been fighting alongside us and organizing against corporate, billionaire interests for her entire career,” said SEIU WI member Anthol Farrar, a Security Officer from Milwaukee. “If anyone can take on Tom Tiffany and his threats against our healthcare and our democracy, it’s Francesca Hong.”
