SEIU Wisconsin Service and Care Workers Celebrate Defeat of MAGA-endorsed Constitutional Amendment Questions in the August Primary
SEIU Wisconsin voters rejected Republican-led efforts to subject federal funding for critical agencies, including those that support public health and emergency response, to partisan politics in the legislature.
MILWAUKEE, WI – SEIU Wisconsin members joined hundreds of thousands of fellow Wisconsin voters who decidedly rejected the attempted MAGA-endorsed power grab by voting NO on Questions 1 & 2. The measures, which failed by impressive margins, would have eliminated checks and balances by shifting federal fund distribution power solely to the Legislature and away from the governor. This attempted power grab comes as Wisconsinites vote using fair legislative maps for the first time in more than a decade.
Pat Raes, RN and SEIU Wisconsin President shared, “Federal funding is essential for state agencies and programs to function and effectively support our communities. Without it, our public health work is jeopardized. I am proud to have fought alongside our union siblings to ensure these critical resources won’t get held up by partisan politics and game-playing that is common in the Wisconsin legislature. All of us, no matter the color of our skin or where we work, deserve access to the resources and support we need to live and thrive in Wisconsin.”
Looking ahead, SEIU Wisconsin remains committed to electing pro-worker candidates and supporting pro-worker policies that create a state where all Wisconsinites thrive. SEIU Wisconsin-supported partners have already knocked on more than 175,000 doors to strengthen our advocacy for Unions For All and to elect leaders like Vice President Harris and Governor Walz and reelect Senator Tammy Baldwin, who will put Wisconsin workers before corporate interests and billionaire bosses.
