The Marquette University men’s basketball team (10-18, 5-12 BIG EAST) continued conference play with a 76-60 victory at Georgetown (13-15, 5-12 BIG EAST) on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.

Freshman guard Nigel James Jr. finished with 20 points and senior forward Ben Gold recorded his first-career double-double, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds.  James Jr. scored 20-or-more points for the ninth time this season, seventh in league play, and Marquette picked up its first road win of the campaign

The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 15-7 run and led by as many as 13 points with 15 minutes left in regulation.  Georgetown would respond however, pulling to within two possessions with 10 minutes on the clock.  Marquette maintained its advantage as the outing progressed and eventually pulled away down the stretch thanks to contributions from a number of players.  The Golden Eagle shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the second half and held GU to just 26.7 percent from the floor after intermission.

Marquette led by a many as nine points in the first half and 40-35 at the intermission after using a 15-1 run midway through the opening stanza to take its first lead of the game.  James Jr. led the way with 12 points and Owens chipped in 10 points.  After a slow start offensively, MU finished the half shooting 47.1 percent from the floor, including 6-of-14 from deep.

UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles return home on Sunday, March 1 to host DePaul at 3 p.m. CT on FS1. Markus Howard will have his jersey retired during a halftime ceremony.
