Milwaukee County to Host Second Annual Holiday Healing Summit to Support Older Adults, People with Disabilities, and Caregivers
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), Aging & Disabilities Services will host the Second Annual Holiday Healing Summit on Tuesday, December 16 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Washington Park Senior Center. This free, public event brings together community leaders, clinicians, peer specialists, and individuals in recovery to offer inspiration, wellness tools, and healing-centered support during a season that can be both joyful and challenging.
This year’s Summit builds on the success of last year’s inaugural gathering, expanding programming and deepening opportunities for older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers to connect, heal, and receive practical tools for emotional and physical well-being.
The event is led by Opioid Prevention Coordinator Ricky Person, whose team has spent the past year knocking on nearly 10,000 doors across Milwaukee County. Their outreach involves distributing free Narcan, fentanyl test strips, xylazine test strips, and sharing a life-saving message: there are Better Ways to Cope, when it comes to life’s challenges and traumas than the misuse of substances.
“This Summit is about restoring hope, strengthening community, and reminding our older adults and people with disabilities that they are not alone,” said Person. “Our outreach team has seen firsthand how much people are carrying. This event gives us space to breathe, heal, and learn together.”
The program will feature:
● African drumming to open the space
● A community panel featuring individuals in recovery, peer support specialists, and clinicians from diverse backgrounds
● A healing art activity led by wellness facilitators
● A keynote session and guided reflection
● A complimentary meal and refreshments
