Near northwest side building owner looking for mural artist
Alderman Lamont Westmoreland is encouraging mural artists to apply to paint a mural on a future community hub facility at N. 76th St. and W. Capitol Dr.
Darick Spears, owner of Darick Books Café Complex, 3953 N. 76th St., is looking to hire a mural painter to add mural art on the side of the 21,000 square foot building.
Alderman Westmoreland said Mr. Spears is looking for “a huge mural” to grace the outside of the building and urges anyone interested to go to https://innobear.floor23digital.com/contest/4y8kxZJB for more details.
The property (vacant since 2011) is being developed by Mr. Spears into a multi-purpose facility for community engagement, entrepreneurial growth and to provide an environment to uplift, teach and create.
The first level will include a co-working space, laundromat and gym for co-working members, and the second level will house Darick Books Café, book sales and printing services. Proposed renovations will represent a nearly $1 million investment to uplift the surrounding area, and it is anticipated that the new space will be open within the next 18 months.
