Video Release of MPD Officer Involved Shooting
MILWAUKEE, WI— On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 2:16 a.m., uniformed Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers patrolling our downtown entertainment district heard multiple gunshots near E. Knapp Street and N. Water Street. Officers on foot responding to the gunshots observed an Audi fleeing the scene. While fleeing, the driver struck an officer with their car. Officers, including the injured officer, discharged their weapons at the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was later located unoccupied on the 1200 block of W. Fond Du Lac Avenue. The driver was located in the vicinity and it was determined he was struck by the officers’ gunfire. A gun was located in the suspect’s car and another gun was found in the area.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was an 18-year-old male. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. He was arrested and criminally charged by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
The injured officer, a 25-year-old female, was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries with less than a year of service. Additional officers involved in this incident are a 28-year-old male with over 7 years of service and a 27-year-old male with over 8 years of service. All officers were placed on administrative duty as is routine in a critical incident.
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.
The Milwaukee Police Department’s Video Release Policy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 575, establishes criteria for when video evidence that captures officer-involved incidents that result in death or great bodily harm will be released to the public. This policy is intended to balance important interests, including the public’s interest in transparency and police accountability, the necessity of preserving the integrity of criminal and administrative investigations, and the privacy interests of individuals depicted in such videos (including victims, witnesses, bystanders, and the individuals against whom force is used). This policy creates a presumption of release. It is our goal to release video in officer involved incidents according to SOP 575 within 15 days of the incident.
