WBB Travels to Villanova Sunday Afternoon
Golden Eagles won first meeting of season 64-59 at Al McGuire Center
The Marquette University women’s basketball team travels to Villanova on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. CT. The BIG EAST Digital Network on FloCollege features the broadcast with Nick Mantegna (play-by-play) and Harry Perretta (analyst) on the call.
FIRST MEETING THIS SEASON
• Marquette came back from being down 13 to beat Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 11, 64-59, at the Al McGuire Center.
• Halle Vice had her then third double-double of the season with a career-high tying 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
• Marquette was down 10 after one and got the deficit to single digits at the break by hitting the final two shots of the second quarter.
• The Golden Eagles outscored the Wildcats 21-9 in the third quarter and led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter.
• Skylar Forbes (injury) missed the contest.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST VILLANOVA
• Marquette and Villanova are meeting for the 34th time on Sunday.
• Villanova leads the all-time series, 18-15.
• The Golden Eagles and Wildcats met three times last season. Villanova won both regular season meetings before MU won 50-48 in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST tournament in March.
VOLKER CAREER NIGHT AT XAVIER
• Lee Volker had her second-straight 20-point game at Xavier Wednesday night.
• The senior guard finished with 20 points, six rebounds and a career-high four 3-pointers.
DEFENSE HOLDS XAVIER TO SUB 40 POINTS ON WEDNESDAY
• Xavier’s 38 points tied the fewest BIG EAST opponent total in program history. Marquette won 61-38 over St. John’s on Feb. 18, 2023 and 52-38 over Georgetown on Feb. 7, 2024.
• Marquette held Xavier to 14 first half points, the lowest opponent first half total this season.
FORBES EARNS FOURTH WEEKLY HONOR ROLL SELECTION
• Skylar Forbes earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
• Forbes averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks over Marquette’s two wins last week.
• The Markham, Ontario native had a game-high 23 points in a road win at Providence on Wednesday, Jan. 22. She followed that up with an 18-point performance against Georgetown on Saturday, Jan. 25 with a career-high five assists and four blocks.
• Forbes shot 59.1 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from three during the week while going 100 percent from the free throw line (11-for-11).
