13th Annual Bronzeville Week a Resounding Success

Bronzeville Week, an official City of Milwaukee event hosted by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs in its 13th year, concluded a week long run of celebrating arts, commerce, history and culture in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood on Saturday August 10.

Alderwoman Coggs notes the team effort that it takes to produce the annual celebration, and extends a thank you to all those involved. “Every year it warms my heart to see the turnout we have for Bronzeville Week events big and small. It really does take a whole host of people and partners to make this week happen, and I want to thank all of the city staff, sponsors, community partners and residents who took the time to participate in this year’s festivities,” she said.

“I would also like to take a moment to recognize all those who were honroed in some form or fashion during Bronzeville Week,” the Alderwoman continued. The top three finishers in the HaRUNnee 5k Walk/Run were Michal Robledo, Tarred Sohier and Sam Leichtling. The winners of the Bronzeville Arts & Culture Festival youth talent show included: 1st place, Victoria Conley-Washington; 2nd place, Journii Simms-Brown; and 3rd place, Amina Williams. Additionally, the Bronzeville Art Walk best of show winner was given to Gerald Williamson, and the youth scholarship award recipients were Kayla Hooper, a sophomore at Arizona State University, and Noah Paolo-Teague, a senior at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Bronzeville Week presenting sponsors include Alderwoman Coggs, the City of Milwaukee, and Historic King Drive BID 8. Advocates include Bader Philanthropies, the Brewers Community Foundation, and Visit Milwaukee. Supporters include ThriveOn Collaboration, Milwaukee Bucks, Athena Communications, JCP Construction, J.Jeffers & Co., the Greater Milwaukee Urban League, Maison de Bouchard, and collaborative partner MKE Black, as well as support from a variety of local businesses and community partners.
