Estabrook Beer Garden Opens 2022 with 2 Keg Tappings

By - Apr 13th, 2022 09:37 am

The Estabrook Beer Garden will open the 2022 Season with a weekend long Maifest Celebration, including 2 keg tappings.  Friday, April 22 at 6pm will be official season opening and Maibock Keg Tapping, FREE BEER will be served after the tapping until 7pm. As a beer lover’s luck would have it  April 23rd is German Beer Day, warranting another keg tapping at Noon on Saturday.

The opening of Estabrook Beer Garden is a sure sign of spring. The weekend’s festivities will include live music, beer and food. The opening ceremony on Friday will include the Milwaukee County Executive, County Parks Director, County Supervisors and representatives from the communities surrounding Estabrook Park. Bavarian tradition calls for a special brew to mark the end of winter and inspire the frivolity of Spring. Hofbräu Maibock Beer is Munich’s official beer of the season.  This amber bock beer with its sweet malty tones and little extra kick of alcohol helps get the party started.

Another Day Worth Celebrating

German Beer Day celebrate the “Reinheitsgebot” or “Purity Law” passed in Bavaria on April 23, 1516.  Considered one the first consumer protections ever put in place, the law legally defines beer by limiting the ingredients used in its production to Water, Barley and Hops. You might notice the omission of Yeast, Pasteur first discovered it 300 years later. The law effectively protected consumers from poor quality, overly priced beer, while ensuring that there was enough wheat and rye for bread-making. To commemorate this great day in human history there will be ceremonial reading of the “Reinheitsgebot” followed by the tapping of a keg of Hofbräu Dunkel Beer. Free samples will be offered from the keg while they last.

10-Year Anniversary to be Celebrated in June

2022 marks the 10th season for Estabrook Beer Garden, and a return to an era that disappeared from our landscape with the start of Prohibition.  Am Anniversary celebration will be held in June. Estabrook Beer Garden is the first truly public beer garden in America in nearly 100 years, its creation led to a nationwide boom in beer gardens.  Inspirations came from Milwaukee’s brewing legacy and the operation is modeled after beer gardens found in modern day Munich, Germany. The Estabrook Beer Garden is a place for all people to come together enjoy nature, a great beer and make new friends.

Estabrook Park lies on the banks of the Milwaukee River, the beer garden is set on a bluff just above a waterfall. Visitors arrive by foot, bicycle, automobile, kayak and canoe. Park Amenities include trails, playgrounds, disc golf course, dog park, soccer fields & riverwalk.

20% of the Beer Garden’s gross revenue goes to Milwaukee County every day. The beer garden also has a partnership with the Friends of Estabrook Park. Funds from the normal revenue share go into the general Milwaukee County funds and cannot be earmarked for parks projects. Funds raised for the Friends group stay in Estabrook Park.  The Friends of Estabrook Park have used funds raised at the beer garden to rebuild stairs, improve trails, restore park amenities and plant trees and flowers.
