MILWAUKEE – Today the County Board of Supervisors adopted [17-1, Weishan] a proposal by Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson to create a task force to recommend funding allocations for monies received from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

“This task force will allow the residents of Milwaukee County to have a greater say in how our ARPA funds are spent,” said Chairwoman Nicholson. “I look forward to having robust dialogue about how we can use this funding to help those most in need in our community.”

Milwaukee County was allocated $183 million in ARPA funding by the federal government. The county received half of its allocation this May, with the other half expected to be received in May 2022.

The ARPA Task Force will be comprised of six members including the County Board Chairperson, County Executive, Committee on Finance Chairperson, Department of Administrative Services Director, Milwaukee County Comptroller, and Office of African American Affairs Director, or their designees.

“The ARPA dollars will ensure the next few years of social and economic recovery go much more smoothly for local governments,” said Finance Committee Chair Jason Haas, a cosponsor of the resolution. “This team of professionals and dedicated public servants will work to ensure we get the best results for the dollars and yield long-term stability for the public.”

The task force will solicit public input, with a focus on outreach to underrepresented groups, to provide recommendations to allocate funding that advances Milwaukee County’s vision of becoming the healthiest county in Wisconsin by achieving racial equity.
