Senator Bradley Votes Against Bill that Conceals Criminals’ Records

MADISON, Wis. — Senator Julian Bradley, R–Franklin, released the following statement Wednesday after voting no on a bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee that would expand opportunities for criminals 25 and older to apply to have their criminal records hidden:

“Crime is on a dramatic rise in Wisconsin, and I am frustrated that hiding criminal records from the public and potential employers appears to be a top priority for some in the Legislature,” Senator Bradley said.

“We ought to be looking at ways to hold criminals accountable to increase public safety in our communities. Erasing the criminal history of someone who carjacks, participates in the sexual trafficking of women, or solicits children to engage in criminal activity is not the right direction for Wisconsin.”

Senate Bill 78 passed the Senate Committee on Judiciary on a 4-2 vote, with Senators Bradley and Jacque voting against recommendation.
