Comes After Marquette Poll Shows Mandela Barnes As Only Democrat Beating Tom Tiffany

Today, United Auto Workers Wisconsin State CAP Council is endorsing Mandela Barnes for Governor of Wisconsin.

“My story is only possible because of UAW. My dad’s membership in UAW Local 1866 created the groundwork for my middle-class upbringing that opened the doors to so much opportunity,” said Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes. “But far too many of those good-paying union jobs are gone and shipped overseas because of corporate greed. The system is rigged for billionaires and big corporations while working families get left behind—and I’m running for Governor to fight back by getting things done the Wisconsin Way. As Governor, I’ll fight to bring back good-paying union jobs across Wisconsin and restore collective bargaining rights. I could not be more honored to have UAW alongside me in this fight.”

“Mandela has always been on the side of unions and working people. He walked the picket line with us and fought with us against plant closings. He believes as we do that union rights must be restored, the minimum wage must be a livable wage, the wealthy must pay their fair share of taxes and health care must be affordable and accessible to all,” said UAW Region 4 Director Brandon Campbell. “We know what Mandela will do as Governor because he has a track record of always putting working people first. That is where he came from and that is who he is. Mandela Barnes is the candidate who can unite Democratic primary voters and win a general election against MAGA Tom Tiffany.”

This endorsement comes as polls continue to show this as a two-person race, with Mandela Barnes being the only candidate in the primary beating Tom Tiffany in the latest Marquette poll.

UAW’s support of Mandela Barnes’ campaign for Governor builds on a broad statewide coalition, including UFCW Local 1473—the largest private sector union in the state– since day one of the campaign; AFT Local 212; End Citizens United for Mandela’s resolve in the fight to get money out of politics and to reject corporate PAC money; Collective PAC; NRDC Action Fund; Next 50; Senator Adam Schiff; Representatives Angelina Cruz and Amaad Rivera-Wagner, Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, La Crosse Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey, Menasha Mayor Austin Hammond, Superior Mayor Jim Paine, and dozens of state and local officials from across Wisconsin.
