Bar 107 Sports Bar and Grill has permanently closed following a fatal shooting that occurred near the establishment over the weekend.

The closure comes after pressure from area Alderwoman Larresa Taylor, which prompted the bar at 8775 N. 107th St. to surrender its license. “Bar 107 is now closed permanently,” Taylor confirmed in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting took place around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, on the 8700 block of N. Granville Rd., according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department.

Brenisha Butcher, a 33-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her sister, 30-year-old Brittany Butcher was transported to the hospital with non-fatal gunshot wounds.

On Monday, Bar 107 co-owner Alpesh Patel told Urban Milwaukee that he was still familiarizing himself with the incident, having left the bar before the shooting occurred. At the time, Patel said he believed the violence took place outside the bar—possibly across the street.

However, an Instagram video shows the interior of the bar just moments before the shooting, with patrons in a panic and one person unconscious on the floor. The poster confirmed in a comment that the video was filmed inside Bar 107.

In the aftermath of the incident, Alderwoman Taylor issued a statement expressing her disappointment in the establishment’s lack of security.

“Businesses should prioritize security and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of their patrons,” she said on Monday. “Bar 107 has repeatedly failed to meet this basic expectation, and we will conduct further investigations to determine the best course of action.”

But that didn’t prove necessary. Patel’s attorney later confirmed his plans to surrender the license and close the business.

In addition to the latest incident, Bar 107 has faced previous complaints, including two filed in 2017 seeking to revoke its license. However, the City of Milwaukee did not process those complaints for various reasons.

Patel took ownership of Bar 107 in 2014, and co-owned the business with Darshita Patel, according to city records. Prior to the closure, the bar’s liquor license was set to expire in October 2025.

Alderwoman Taylor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
