TCD’s Milwaukee Film Fest Picks
The 5th annual Milwaukee Film Festival is in full swing, so check out our ever-updating daily guide to what's next on the big screen.
Saturday, October 5
TCD Pick: Remote Area Medical
Remote Area Medical is named for a really good idea philanthropist Stan Brock had about 30 years ago: a volunteer medical team designed to provide critical services for people in places far away from quality medical treatment, like the Amazon, for example. Today, their primary area of focus is a bit different: the United States. This doc spends three days with the doctors of RAM in Tennessee, following their struggle to provide citizens medical care they could otherwise never achieve without caving to maudlin or politically polarizing depiction of its subjects.
Remote Area Medical will screen three times: Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre; Sunday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre; and Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 2:30 p.m. at Fox-Bay Cinema.

TCD Pick: An Evening with Paul Attanasio
Unlike the festival’s other major tribute of the year, for George Tillman Jr., this night dedicated to the writing and producing career of Paul Attanasio won’t be screening a whole film, but that might be because there’s too many to choose from. After spending a few years as a film critic for the Washington Post, Attanasio jumped into the business headlong, racking up writing credits for films including Quiz Show, Disclosure, Donnie Brasco, The Sum of All Fears, and a pending reboot of Scarface. As if that weren’t enough, he’s also the creator of two of the TV industry’s most influential dramas – Homicide: Life on the Street and House – and will be writing the upcoming Showtime series The Vatican alongside Ridley Scott. So that gives artistic/executive director Jonathan Jackson lots of clips to pull from in this conversation with Attanasio about his career and thoughts on writing for TV and film today, followed by an extended Q&A period.
An Evening with Paul Attanasio will begin Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre.
