TCD Pick: Blood Brother
Most of the film times in the last few days of the Milwaukee Film Festival are dedicated to last-chance-screenings, films that have already debuted but are going up on the screen one last time in case you missed it amid the other big openings. But there’s one debut that can’t be missed: Blood Brother, a heartrending and uplifting doc about Rocky Braat, a tourist whose visit to an Indian orphanage for women and children suffering from HIV and AIDS would lead him to return, devoting himself to helping care for the kids now in his care. The film comes from Braat’s best friend, director Steve Hoover, who’s returned with a fascinating portrait of commitment and compassion for a population otherwise ignored.
Blood Brother screens once as the closing night feature of the festival: Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre. Tickets are $20, $17 for Milwaukee Film members.
