The redesigned Zillman Park will celebrate its grand opening on Friday, September 27 at 4:30 p.m. as part of Bay View Gallery Night. Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic will be joined by Mayor Cavalier Johnson, representatives from the Department of Public Works and Department of City Development, and other project partners and community members to celebrate the redesigned park.

The goal of the Zillman Park redesign was to enhance recreational opportunities in the area and craft a multi-functional, intergenerational, all abilities public space. The park design takes into consideration the feedback collected throughout the community engagement process, and includes 22,960 square feet of lawn area, 9,235 square feet of plaza (paved) area, and 1,525 square feet of native garden area including new tree plantings.

“Zillman Park is the gateway to Bay View, and I am excited that we will be able to celebrate the opening of this community-centric public space as part of Bay View Gallery Night,” said Alderwoman Dimitrijevic. “I want to thank all of the project partners for their hard work, and the community for their engagement and input in this process. The park truly reflects the needs and desires of the community.”

“Milwaukee values public spaces. They add character and quality of life to neighborhoods all over our city,” Mayor Cavalier Johnson said. “Over the past four years, we have invested more than $23-million in tax incremental financing into public spaces and amenities, including the $930,000 we directed into the Zillman Park improvements.”

The Bay View Community Center and 1840 Brewing will host a beer garden in Zillman Park as part of Bay View Gallery Night alongside the Milwaukee Maker’s Market. A celebratory toast will take place as part of the park grand opening.
