Wisconsin Republicans Slash Gov. Tony Evers’ Liberal Wish List

[Madison, WI] – Today, Wisconsin Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee voted to slash Gov. Tony Evers’ liberal wish list, which would have hiked taxes by $1 billion, rolled back Gov. Scott Walker’s historic Act 10 reforms that have saved taxpayers $13.9 billion, reversed election integrity laws and prioritized the governor’s liberal wish list instead of pro-growth policies to support Wisconsin families.

The Republican Party of Wisconsin released the following statement from Chairman Andrew Hitt on the Joint Finance Committee’s vote:

“Wisconsinites need a pro-growth budget as our economy recovers from the impact of Gov. Evers’ costly lockdowns during the pandemic, yet Gov. Evers’ liberal wish list put far-left priorities first and Wisconsin families last. We look forward to reading the budget put forward by Wisconsin Republicans that will uplift small businesses and put power in the hands of the taxpayers, not big government.”

Evers budget would raise taxes by $1 billion? Evers budget would bring in $1.6 billion in federal dollars for critical infrastructure improvements including extending broadband to rural Wisconsin. This federal investment would create in the neighborhood of 100,000 jobs. Evers budget again included the Medicaid expansion. Research has demonstrated it reduces health care costs across the board. Ever’s liberal wish list also included funds for essential reforms to the unemployment system. GOP legislative leadership spent the last year bashing the unemployment system AND refusing to lift so much as a finger to reform it.

There is nothing about the GOP budget stance that is either pro-family or pro-Wisconsin. They continue to take power away from communities and consolidating it in the hands of the corporate oligarchy.
