Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program Heating Season to End May 15
Benefits remain available to eligible Wisconsin residents
Madison, Wis. – Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld has announced that with the heating season ending on May 15, residents still have an opportunity to receive Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) benefits during the current heating season.
“Despite recent news of federal staffing cuts, WHEAP benefits are still available to help households with their heating and electricity bills and reduce their energy burden,” said Secretary Blumenfeld. “We urge Wisconsin residents who need assistance to contact your local WHEAP Agency or apply online before May 15 to determine your eligibility.”
Benefits are income dependent, and households may be eligible if the gross household income is 60% of the state median income level or less.
While the opportunity to apply for this heating season’s energy assistance benefits ends May 15, crisis assistance to help restore service or prevent disconnections is available year-round. Some recipients also may be eligible for other Home Energy Plus services such as repair or replacement of their HVAC system or help with home weatherization.
Households can apply for WHEAP online at energybenefit.wi.gov, or be referred to their local agency to apply by calling 1-866-432-8947.The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program is funded through a block grant from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the State of Wisconsin’s Public Benefits program.
