(Stevens Point, WI) The Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education has announced the 2022 Eco-Justice Award. This award is presented in recognition of leadership in developing and implementing programs that are inclusive, culturally relevant, working towards equitable internal practices, and representing the diverse communities in our state.

Lisa Neeb is the Green and Healthy Schools Project Manager for Reflo, a nonprofit based in Milwaukee. Through the Green and Healthy Schools Schoolyard Redevelopment program, Neeb helps facilitate the transformation of schoolyards from concrete slabs to green sanctuaries throughout Milwaukee, offering urban students access to outdoor environmental education and healthy green spaces. This project has a direct impact on the health of the Milwaukee communities around the schools, by reducing stormwater runoff and reducing heat island effect caused by the traditional concrete schoolyard designs, while also increasing access to enriching environmental education resources for communities that are traditionally excluded from the environmental education community of Wisconsin. Lisa Neeb directly supports the teachers with curriculum, the schools with fundraising, and the students through internships and leadership opportunities. All schools in Milwaukee have an equal, equitable opportunity to be considered for future redevelopment projects through community voting processes, which often select the schools with the greatest demonstrated need in terms of access to green space and environmental impact.

The Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education invites you to attend the 2022 Virtual Celebration of Excellence in Environmental Education on November 3 at 7 PM to help us recognize and celebrate Lisa Neeb’s significant contributions to environmental education. Please join the free program at the link posted here: https://waee.org/awards.
