WBB Hosts No. 7/7 UConn on New Year’s Day
First BIG EAST home game for Cara Consuegra as head coach at MU
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball team hosts No. 7/7 UConn on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.
STREAMING INFORMATION
SNY games will be available to stream in-market (CT, NY, NJ, PA) to authenticated subscribers via the SNY app or online.
Out-of-market fans will be able to stream SNY games at no additional cost to authenticated subscribers who have FOX as part of their television package. Users will need to sign in with their TV provider credentials at https://www.foxsports.com/ or in the FOX Sports app.
CONSUEGRA FIRST BIG EAST HOME GAME IN CHARGE AT MU
• Cara Consuegra, in her first year as head coach at MU, will coach in her first home BIG EAST Conference game as a head coach on Wednesday.
• Consuegra, who was head coach at Charlotte for the past 13 seasons, guided the 49ers in three different conferences, playing in the Atlantic 10 from 2011-13, Conference USA from 2013-23, and the American Athletic Conference in 2023-24.
• Consuegra was 134-84 (.615 winning percentage) in conference games at Charlotte and won the 2021-22 Conference USA regular season with a 15-3 mark in league play before winning the conference tournament.
VICE EARNS FIRST BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL SELECTION
• Sophomore guard Halle Vice earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the first time in her career.
• Vice recorded her second career double-double with 17 points and a career-high tying 11 rebounds on Sunday at DePaul.
• The Bettendorf, Iowa native added a career-high five assists, two steals and one block.
• Seven of Vice’s 11 rebounds came on the offensive end.
• It marks sixth-straight week MU has had a player on the conference weekly honor roll.
MASON STUFFS STAT SHEET AT DEPAUL
• Jaidynn Mason had 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals on Sunday at DePaul.
• Her six assists were a season-high and one off her career-high.
• The junior guard is shooting 57.1 percent from the floor the last three games (16-of-28).
FORBES LEADING THE WAY
• Skylar Forbes has led the team in scoring seven times this season and had a career-high 25 points against Stonehill on Saturday, Dec. 21.
• The sophomore forward has three conference honor roll selections this season to lead the team and has made a team-high 20 3-pointers.
• Forbes was the lone Golden Eagle to have started a game at MU coming into this season and has scored in double-figures in 10-of-12 games this season.
DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY FOR MU
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and 11th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (33.9 percent) and have held opponents to under 45 percent from the floor in all 12 games this season.
• MU is 23rd nationally holding opponents to 54.5 points per game.
• The Golden Eagles have held opponents to under 53 points five times and have held teams to 10-point-or-less in 15 quarters this season.
CRASH THE GLASS
• In Marquette’s nine wins this season, the Golden Eagles have outrebounded their opponents by an average of 14.4 rebounds per game.
• A Marquette player has pulled down six-or-more rebounds 25 times this season, led by Halle Vice who has done it eight times.
BLOCK PARTY
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and 21st in the nation at 5.1 blocks per game.
• Skylar Forbes is third in the BIG EAST and 47th nationally with 22 blocks on the season.
• The sophomore forward is second in the conference and 47th nationally at 1.8 blocks per game and had a career-high five blocks in the road win at Rutgers on Nov. 29, 2024.
