WBB Defeats Georgetown Saturday Night, 55-50
Golden Eagles host Xavier on Thursday for Senior Night
The Marquette University women’s basketball team continued BIG EAST play with a 55-50 road win at Georgetown on Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles (19-8, 11-5 BIG EAST) were led by Jaidynn Mason, who had 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting with four assists. Halle Vice recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 boards.
A 6-0 run early in the third quarter gave MU a seven-point advantage but Georgetown battled back and got the lead for the first time at the 2:01 mark of the third quarter at 40-38. A Halle Vice bucket plus the foul gave MU a 41-40 lead going into the final frame.
There were four lead changes and three ties in the fourth quarter. Jaidynn Mason hit a layup with 13 seconds left to give MU a 53-50 lead. One defensive stop later, Halle Vice sealed the win with two free throws with two seconds remaining. Georgetown didn’t hit a field goal the last 5 minutes and 59 seconds of the game and were 1-of-9 from the field in the fourth.
Georgetown (11-16, 4-11 BIG EAST) was led by Kelsey Ransom, who had 22 points.
NOTABLES:
- Marquette has taken the last 15 meetings over Georgetown, the third-longest win streak against a BIG EAST opponent. MU has a 16-game winning streak over Providence and 17-game win streak against Xavier.
- Jaidynn Mason had her third-straight game scoring in double-figures and 12th game of the season.
- Halle Vice had her eighth game of the season grabbing 10-or-more rebounds.
