Golden Eagles Edged by Hampton, 4-3
ORLANDO, FLA. – The Marquette University women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Hampton on Monday afternoon.
The Goldean Eagles opened the match by securing the crucial doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, taking a 1-0 lead. Elena Duva and Maria Poon gave MU the advantage as they finished first defeating
Samira Khazieva and Tanya Midzi with a 6-4 effort. It was Emma Davis and Elise Barnstedt that clinched the point for the Blue and Gold as they secured a 6-1 victory over Chelsea Chakanyuka and Toffee Ghorab.
It became a close battle in singles as the Pirates responded with four singles wins to clinch the match.
Davis faced Midzi and saw her match go into extended sets. Davis won the first set 6-4, but Midzi battled back in the second to take a 6-3 win. However, in the superset Davis outlasted Midzi 10-3.
Duva also recorded a point for the Golden Eagles as she defeated Melis Sakiroglu 6-3, 6-1.
