USDA Must Release Contingency Funds for SNAP Immediately

Legislative Democrats and Advocates Send Letter to USDA Sec. Brooke Rollins, Pressing for Critical Assistance for Families

Madison, Wis. — In a letter to Secretary Brooke Rollins, State Democratic Lawmakers and Advocates urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to immediately release contingency funds for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Unless the department acts now, families will face a lapse in benefits beginning November 1st.

Rep. Sequanna Taylor (D-Milwaukee) and Rep. Clinton Anderson (D-Beloit) released the following statement regarding the letter:

“SNAP is essential infrastructure. It’s time for the Trump Administration and the USDA to stop the political games and release the funding,” said Rep. Sequanna Taylor. “People in my district and around the state of Wisconsin depend on FoodShare every month to get by, and we can’t sit by and do nothing as November approaches. That’s why we’re pressing the department for action and organizing food drives across the state.”

“Hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites rely on FoodShare to put food on the table, but the government shutdown puts that assistance at risk,” said Rep. Clinton Anderson. “The USDA must release the contingency funding and prevent a lapse in benefits. Too many families, and too many children, would be left without this important lifeline. That’s unacceptable.”
