U.S. Senate Candidate Tom Nelson on Tragic Buffalo Massacre; Calls out Ron Johnson for Normalizing “Great Replacement” White Supremacy Rhetoric
APPLETON – U.S. Senate candidate Tom Nelson issued this statement in response to yesterday’s tragedy in Buffalo:
“The horrific massacre yesterday in Buffalo exposes the brokenness of our political culture when we continue to let assault weapons be freely available and allow unchecked white supremacist rhetoric to now become normalized. What was once an unthinkable fringe theory has now influenced mass shootings from Christchurch, New Zealand to Charleston, South Carolina to now Buffalo. When highly-rated cable hosts like Tucker Carlson say Democrats are replacing ‘the voters now casting ballots, with new people, more obedient voters from the Third World’ and Senator Ron Johnson accuses Joe Biden of wanting complete open borders because ‘Is it really they want to remake the demographics of America to ensure their — that they stay in power forever? Is that what’s happening here?,’ those beliefs trickle down to young men who are now committing unspeakable evil in the name of defending the white race.
For our future, we need leaders who are committed to confronting the disease of white supremacist thinking and violence and confronting the NRA who continue to block all common sense gun reforms even as our streets get paved with more bloodshed.”
