Trump Pulls the Rug out from under Mental Health Services in Milwaukee
(MADISON)—Today, Senator Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s recent action to rescind already-approved federal funding that had been going to health services across the state, including Parachute House in the 3rd Senate District:
“Nora Hitchcock, the Executive Director of Our Space, which operates the Parachute House was in the State Capitol yesterday, helping legislators understand what strategies would be most helpful to improve access to mental health services in Wisconsin when she received an email informing her that the federal funding Parachute House receives, which they expected to run through June, was being clawed back by the Trump administration.
“The shock that this caused cannot be overstated. At a time when mental health care is so difficult to access across our state, to watch the rug get pulled out from under the individuals and organizations who have devoted themselves to assisting their neighbors in crisis makes me sick.
“In Wisconsin, we look out for our neighbors, and we keep our promises, but these are things that President Trump doesn’t understand. He’s more concerned about tax breaks for his wealthy friends—like Elon Musk—than he is about helping Americans who are struggling.”
