Tom Tiffany Says the Quiet Part Out Loud: The GOP Has No Health Care Plan
MADISON, Wis. — At a rare press conference today, GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany has finally admitted the truth: Republicans don’t have a plan for health care. First, Tiffany dodged a question on whether he would vote to extend ACA subsidies, saying “I don’t accept the premise of your question…that we should simply do one or the other.” In response to the follow-up question asking about what the GOP plan is after 16 years, Tiffany said, “Unfortunately, that has not been done.”
Take a quick look at Tom Tiffany’s history of work to rip health care from Wisconsinites:
- During the longest shutdown in history, Tom Tiffany directed Republican colleagues to “hold firm” in their position that could raise health care costs for Wisconsinites.
- When asked about continuing to fund health care during an interview about the government shutdown, Tom Tiffany replied, “We can’t do that.”
- Tom Tiffany helped write a plan that would raise the age of eligibility for Medicare and Social Security, privatize Social Security, and turn Medicare into a voucher system. Tiffany said separately that he supports raising the retirement age.
- In 2025, Tiffany cosponsored a bill to completely repeal the Inflation Reduction Act which capped out-of-pocket prescription drug copayments and saved Medicare subscribers up to an average of $2,500 per year in healthcare costs.
- Tiffany has said that the Affordable Care Act has “harmed the rest of America.” Over 313,000 Wisconsinites are currently enrolled in an ACA insurance plan.
