Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald Responds to Governor Evers’ Budget Address
“Governor Evers campaigned on bringing people to the table, however Republicans weren’t even consulted before he rolled out one of the most liberal budgets in Wisconsin history."
Following tonight’s address by Governor Tony Evers, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:
“Governor Evers campaigned on bringing people to the table, however Republicans weren’t even consulted before he rolled out one of the most liberal budgets in Wisconsin history. His plans will raise the tax burden on manufacturers, potentially send the cost of private health insurance skyrocketing, and hurt the ability of low-income students to escape failing schools.
“We’ve been ready to negotiate with the governor, but have seen nothing outside of his political posturing in newspaper headlines. It’s time he comes to the table to negotiate a budget that Republicans in the Senate might actually support. Our door is open.”

This is from the Senate Majority leader who pushed legislation through without debate, refused to hold public meetings and didn’t allow Democrats to make amendments. This is the Majority leader who preferred to craft legislation with ALEC, instead of the people of Wisconsin. The process Gov. Evers used to put together his budget included your constituents. Evers budget demonstrates that he is listening to the people of Wisconsin and not just the wealthy few.
Sen. Majority leader Fitzgerald, taking the attitude that “you have to work with me but I don’t have to work with you,” is just plain childish. Time to put on your big boy pants.
