Majority Leader Fitzgerald Statement on the Passage of the Wisconsin Budget
"This budget keeps Wisconsin headed in the right direction."
[Madison, WI] — On Wednesday, the Wisconsin State Senate passed the 2019-2021 state budget. The bill is the same as the budget passed by the Assembly on Tuesday and now heads to Governor Evers’ desk for his signature. After the passage of the budget, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:
“When Governor Evers started the budget process in February, he asked Republicans in the Legislature to make advancements in funding education, health care, and infrastructure. We did just that while sticking to our conservative principles. This budget funds schools with more actual dollars than ever before, makes significant investments in health care, and fixes our local roads. This is a good budget.
“This budget keeps Wisconsin headed in the right direction. Years of responsible budgeting have left our state’s fiscal outlook bright. When compared to what was introduced by the governor, our budget spends $2 billion less, borrows $500 million less, and taxes hard-working Wisconsin families over $1 billion less. On top of that, we deliver over $500 million in tax cuts.
“I’m confident that the plan maintains our state’s positive trajectory while taking steps forward in the areas outlined by the governor. We’ve done our part now the governor must do his. I urge him to sign this bill.”
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) represents the 13th Senate District, which covers portions of Dodge, Jefferson, Waukesha, Washington, Dane, and Columbia counties.
