Riverwest 24 Bike Race returns with fun amid competition
Today – Friday, July 26 – the annual Riverwest 24 Bike Race returns to the 3rd and 6th Aldermanic Districts. This event has taken place regularly since 2007, and features a 24-hour bike race through the Riverwest neighborhood and a community party. The race begins at 7 p.m. tonight and concludes at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, July 27.
Alderperson Jonathan Brostoff wants area residents to be aware of the impacts the race will have this weekend on traffic and parking, and encourages people to come out and enjoy the fun. “The Riverwest 24-hour race is a fantastic annual event that brings a lot of attention to the Riverwest neighborhood and highlights all the shops, dining and other entertainment in the area,” he said. “There is plenty for the whole family at this event, including the youth race and bonus events to help your team, and I would encourage everyone to stop by and cheer on the racers throughout the 24 hours.”
Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, whose district also includes parts of the race course, said the Riverwest 24 has become a welcome summer event that is looked forward to by neighbors and racers, alike. “The atmosphere for the Riverwest 24 is festive and family-friendly, and it helps bring neighbors and people from all over the area together in a positive way. I urge the public to come down and see what it is all about,” she said.
