Representative LaKeshia Myers Honors First Responder Eliza A. Ortiz
"I am proud to honor Eliza Ortiz today as the twelfth district’s first responder of the year."
MADISON – Representative LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee) selected Eliza A. Ortiz, an employee of the Milwaukee Fire Department, for the First Responder of the Year recognition. Each legislator selected a recipient from their district for the recognition. The recipient was then invited to the Hometown Hero recognition during the October 10th assembly floor period as part of First Responders Appreciation Month. Police and sheriff officers, fire-fighters along with EMS personnel from around the state were honored during the ceremony.
Mrs. Ortiz, a fire dispatcher, was nominated by the Milwaukee Fire Department Assistant Chief, Aaron Lipski. Earlier this year, Mrs. Ortiz successfully guided a caller through the proper evaluation, airway management, and chest compressions of a patient after the caller found the patient pulseless and not breathing. Mrs. Ortiz kept her composure throughout the call while ensuring the caller did the same during the situation.
“I am proud to honor Eliza Ortiz today as the twelfth district’s first responder of the year. Her exemplary deportment during times of crisis is a necessary service she provides to our district. I am thankful that first responders like Mrs. Ortiz serve the people of the twelfth and we are very fortunate to have them.” Representative Myers said.
